Profitable jobs for freelancers that can be done from home

Profitable jobs for freelancers that can be done from home

Are you tired of your everyday job? Have you ever dreamed of becoming a freelancer? If yes, I brought some great opportunities. This article is for those who want to change their carriers and become freelancers and for those who are already freelancers and are looking for new activities to earn more money. In this article, I’m reviewing some of the best freelancer platforms that provide profitable jobs for freelancers that can be done from home.

Why would anyone become a freelancer?

Being a freelancer means freedom but also uncertainty. You’ll no longer have a boss or a fixed working schedule. Many people become freelancers because they got fed up with their jobs. I know how tiring it is to wake up every day from Monday to Friday, travel to the office, work 8 hours then go back home in the evening entirely exhausted. It isn’t my dream life either. Luckily, nowadays, there are more, and more opportunities for people to give up their jobs and start freelancing instead. However, living as a freelancer can be very uncertain sometimes. There may be weeks when you’re overloaded with tasks, and some weeks can go by without having any work. This can be stressful because you can’t predict how much money you’ll earn, or will you earn anything at all. However, if you do it right, you’ll always find projects to work on.

My story

I worked at an office for some years right after I finished school. Luckily, I was able to change my carrier and start a freelancing instead. I’m a freelancer full stack web developer for 2 years now. This means that I can develop both the backend and the frontend of web-related projects. I developed this whole blog on my own. I only purchased an HTML template, but I'll tell you more about that later. To earn money, I use some of the greatest freelancer platforms ever existed on the internet. I use Fiverr and Freelancer.com the most. Usually, I search for programming tasks, but there are plenty of other opportunities as well.

Freelancer platforms

Fiverr.com

Fiverr is one of the biggest freelancer platforms. After signing up, you should fill your profile with reliable and accurate information about yourself. You can add your skills, the languages you speak, your studies, and other relevant qualifications. When you’re ready, you can create so-called ‘gigs’. These gigs are the services you offer. For example, I usually create web developing gigs. I add a title to my gig, then I have to describe my service, and set a price for it. On Fiverr, when someone needs a web developer, they search for it and see a list of all the people who offer web development services.

Freelancer.com

It’s very similar to Fiverr, however, on Freelancers, customers post their jobs and you have to apply for them. You should also fill in your profile and create an accurate portfolio. On both platforms, there are plenty of fields you can offer your knowledge, like marketing, writing, design, and many others. There are lots of freelancers from the East, and as a personal experience, customers prefer European and American freelancers.

Shutterstock, Photojobz, Istockphoto, Getty Images for hobby and professional photographers

Do you love taking photos? Whether you’re a professional photographer or you take photos as a hobby, you can earn money as a freelancer with your photos. There are plenty of websites where you can sell your images. Shutterstock, Photojobz, iStockphoto, and Getty Images are just a few examples. The process is very easy. After you registered on these platforms, you can start uploading your works. However, there are some rules regarding the content you can upload. There are quality requirements, but also you should pay attention to copyrights and other personal rights.

Let’s start selling your photos

After you uploaded your content, an expert team will review your images. They either deny it or accept it. Every time someone downloads your content, you’ll earn a certain amount of money. If you’re a professional photographer and you upload a huge portfolio, you can easily pursue this as a full-time job. Also, uploading your works on these sites can collect you some extra money. However, if you want to earn money, you should upload content regularly. The more content you upload, the easier users will find you and spend their money on your photos. As a hobby photographer, I occasionally upload my photos to earn some extra money.

T-shirt designs with Zazzle: an opportunity for designers and fashion enthusiasts

If you love fashion or you just enjoy designing t-shirts, Zazzle could be the perfect choice for you. Some years ago, I tried Zazzle. Since I’m not a designer, so I purchased ready plans on Fiverr for $20-25 and uploaded them to Zazzle as t-shirt designs. After the first few sales, I earned back what I paid for the plans.

ThemeForest for developers and designers

If you’re an advanced web developer or graphic designer, you might like ThemeForest. As a developer, I sell website templates on this site. Graphic designers can also upload PSD files. Usually, bigger companies purchase the licenses of these templates or files, and they further develop them based on their preferences. As a web developer, I can also buy someone’s website template and further develop it. Usually, these licenses cost around $1500 - $2000. If you have an approved PSD template, you can upload that as well. PSD format is not necessary, but they tend to approve files in PDS format more often.

Personal experience of ThemeForest

I purchased the HTML template of this blog at ThemeForest, then I personalized it. Some templates are sold more than 100-200 thousand times. If you upload a template, it can also become popular. Imagine selling your content more than 200 thousand times. You can earn more money with it than you can imagine.

Envato marketplace

Envato is a huge marketplace that owns ThemeForest, CodeCanyon, PhotoDune and GraphicRiver. You can sell smaller source codes and scripts on CodeCanyon, photos on PhotoDune and illustrations or graphics on GraphicRiver.

My advice to you

Don’t be fooled

As you could see, you have many opportunities to start freelancing. However, being a freelancer doesn’t mean that you can just chill all day and do nothing. Being a freelancer requires hard work. You should always improve your skills. The broader my portfolio is, the more freelance jobs I’m qualified to. Moreover, you should always search for new opportunities to work. This is especially important at the beginning when you don’t have many connections. Having connections are important because your contacts can suggest your work to others. So, we can say that if you want to be a successful freelancer, you must work hard, improve yourself, broaden your skills and portfolio, and make connections.

The best part of being a freelancer

What I love the most about being a freelancer is that I don’t have to sit in an office away from home. I can work from home, which is great because my dog, Willy, loves it when I’m home with him all day. I can plan my days as I want to.

What I do

Despite being a freelancer, I have a schedule every day, so I don’t waste my time with unnecessary things. Usually, I wake up around the same time every morning, then I start working after my morning routine. Occasionally, I take some breaks to cook lunch or to go outside with my dog. I usually work until around 4 or 5 pm. You might think that it’s almost like working at an office but it’s not. First, I don’t have to get up early, then sit on the crowded bus for an hour in the morning traffic. Second, I don’t have a boss who could tell me what to do or what time I can go out to eat my lunch. I do everything whenever I’d like to. The important thing is to do your tasks and stay motivated. That’s how you’ll earn money.

All in all,

There are plenty of opportunities for you to start freelancing today. You can easily earn money from your sofa by using the mentioned platforms. The only thing you’ll need, apart from a computer, is motivation and the will to work. Being a freelancer could be a perfect chance to earn money when you’re a student or even next to your full-time job. However, if you’re tired of your regular every-day job, and you’re willing to work hard, you can become a full-time freelancer. There are plenty of profitable jobs for freelancers that can be done from home.
